The Neptunes Beat Drop - Metal Lungies

Metal Lungies’ Beat Drop is back this month with the spotlight on The Neptunes.  I was honored to be invited back after the Kanye West beat drop. Ths time around we got my boy $port from Way More Fresher and the one and only SKILLZ contributing too.  I found out that my only 2 of my top 5 Neptunes songs were shared with somebody else - makes me a loner, I guess.  Lots of good write-ups and songs! So, please visit Metal Lungies, download and leave a comment. “Neptunes be smoking that la-la-la..”

T-Wayne - “Can’t Believe it”

So… I know its kinda hypocritical to talk about the focus and insight of Nas for the last few days and then bust out a post about T-Pain and Lil Wayne’s new collabo. But, “I keeps it real!” (C) Chappelle Show. This song has been stuck in my head for awhile now - I blame the chorus and silly ad-libs (”Fuego”). Everything about this song I should hate but I just can’t. If you need a moment for a senseless radio song that isn’t half bad, then you are obliged to download. BTW, the above pic is my vote for the T-Wayne Album cover. What else can you ask for from these two: alien, ugly, dreads, destroying the human race?

Nas drops today…

The brother with the best fades in hip-hop and who is going to hell for snuffing Jesus drops his most agrressive, artistic piece of work today. Most of you have it downloaded but if Weezy can do a milli, why can’t Esco? I’ll be at Best Buy today and will get my self a free t-shirt. Support the movement.

***UPDATE: MC Serch interviews Nas just a few days go.

Nas - Sly Fox (video)

Nas goes in on Fox, O’Reilly, and Rupert on this joint. Wes gave you the BET-friendly “Hero” video before (which I love). Here is the “For Internet Screens Only” version of Sly Fox. Nas be checking the blogs b/c he got Jay and Minya up in there. Don’t trust anyone who watches Fox on the regular. Any coincidence that Jesse Jackson’s playa-hater comments about Barack were on a Fox show? I think not. Jay Smooth’s behind the scenes footage after the jump…

***Update: J.Gilla (our resident Nas expert) gave us the heads-up on Nas in the Huffington Post about Sly Fox.

Joe Budden - Who (Pt. 1 & 2)

Joe Budden. What can you say about this man and his MC skills? Him and Game are tied in my book for the new school MCs that TRULY love this culture of ours. And both seem to be asking Who…? Why…? When…? Where…? How did hip-hop get here? My head has been clouded with some personal things lately but the recent music of Nas and these two drops have kept me focused. Truer words haven’t spoken like this in a minute. I promise, you need to download these tracks. Part 3 is on its way. Thanks to NMC for the links.

U-god is scurred and G-Unit is fourth

Nah Right gives us two entertaining pieces of news today:

U-God is scared for his life now that he asked the RZA for the $180,000 he believes he owes him.

50 cent and G-Unit came in 4th in sales this week - selling barely over 100,000 units.  For the record, Lil’ Wayne’s album went to #1 again and has been out for more than 3 weeks.  I wonder what 50 cent will blame for this one…

Real Late w/ Rosenberg - Nas edition

Rosenberg hit up NY last  night with a heavy set of Nas classics and new material.  I think I put it best when I told J.GIlla to “wear some loose pants at work b/c you may get a hard-on.”  On a sadder note, I heard Juan Epstein is taking the Arrested Development/Chappelle Show route and ending at its best.  Too short, too soon (that’s what she said.)

Summer Anthem for ‘08 - Game’s Pain (Remix)

The original is nice but this remix is made for the summer time heat. Check it out here.

*** UPDATE: And for those a little reminiscent of the yesteryears, here is Naught By Nature’s version called Hip-Hop’s Pain. Pretty cool approach by Treach and Vinnie. - DJ Franchise

No Nas here…

or at least posted by me.  I have been eagerly awaiting this album and after hearing “Hero” and “Black President” on the N***** mixtape, I am holding off to hear the whole album.  Both songs came with beats and lyrics that haven’t excited me about a Nas album since “It was written”.  I lied, I was also excited for “Hip-Hop is Dead”. I also believe that this upcoming album was meant to be heard in its entirety and not a collective of leaked songs. So, its blackout time for me.  No new Nas snippets or leaked tracks.  Everyone else has them but I am closing my eyes and holding my ears till the 15th.  On a seperate note, I think “Hero” inspired me to get a new tattoo. And… anyone else think it was classic when Nas said that he “was shaking off all his pop fans” from his second album for the last few years on his mixtape?  Don’t understimate the kid.

Kid Sister in URB

Kid Sister made it to URB’s Girls of Summer feature.  Very entertaining read.  She was a fatty, loves to cuss, and keeps it real b/c she actually worked crappy jobs just like us.  She also changed the album title, no longer Koko B. Ware. Sad Face.  If you like a dope musician on the rise or a crappy hipster girl that looks like a dude: also check out Janelle Morae or Santogold.  Kid Sister’s full URB interview after the jump…
