Dilla Day

When Jay Dee was alive, I knew who he was and def liked his sound. I can’t front and say that when Labcabincalifornia came out or when Slum Village dropped, I was all about Jay Dee. I respected his game and various contributions to other projects. His death made me realize his body of work and respect his impact on the sound of hip-hop. Greatest of all time? Naw…probably top 5 but that’s not to take away from what he did. His dedication to the culture was inspiring and ability to layer sounds rivals that of the Bomb Squad. Rather than me give you some false claim about he changed my life, I will leave the writing to people who are better at expressing his impact than myself. To mark his bday and passing, please check out the links below for some great write ups.

A lot of this is new to me. This man touched so many people with his music.
Lil’ Jon> J Dilla
TC, read your comment and I hope I am not the only you’ve told this to. (haha) I can only imagine how the homies at TSS would’ve reacted if you put it on there. I commend you on your brave stance though. If we are going there…
Hank Shocklee > Dilla
Premier > Dilla
Pete Rock > Dilla
but…
Dilla > Lil’ Jon
LOL. I discussed it with the Crew. All I got was “I see your point…” (meaning you win cuz I can’t out argue you)
My man… got the TSS crew shook.
