Vogue goes Black…
My homegirl Ursula let me know a few months back that Vogue Italia was planning a “Black” issue. In an effort to expose and decrease the level of racial prejudice, discrimination, and tokenism in the fashion world, photographer Steven Meisel set forth to photograph only Black models for this issue. Franca Sozzani, editor for Vogue Italia, was inspired by Steven Meisel and the Barack Obama campaign and decided to dedicate the whole issue to Black issues, celebrities, and perspective – globally but specifically from the American Black perspective. I think its 30 years behind in the efforts but def appreciated. Photo from Snicka. More pics at the NY times. Issue should be avail in the US now.

SNICKA
@snicka. just got you on ours. keep up the hustle over there. glad to see cipha got you on his blogroll too!
I had actually planned on posting about this on WMF. I’m not exactly happy about this ONE issue. For what it’s worth, we could have our own magazine, hire the same photogs, and do this 365. The black influence in the arts is much more than an annual issue. Not to be THAT guy, but it’s come on already…
I’m gonna have to buy the issue to see how well it’s executed before I get my Chuck D on….
@ $port, I agree. I think its cool but no one should get too excited that one issue is dedicated to “black” people. Go ahead get your Chuck D/Immortal Technique on. The new Nas has got me in that mood.
