Dam Funk, anybody?

I’ve been hearing alot buzz about Dam Funk (pronouced “Dame”, right?) from DJ homies outside of the hip-hop world. Anyone want to enlighten me on why this guy is gaining so much momentum and what people like about him? I did find out that he DJs at CARBON (DFLO remembers!) – one of the first places I DJ’ed when I was in LA. True story.  I’m reaching out to all 30 KTL readers for some musical help – inform ya, boy! (Yes, we made it to 30 readers. I celebrated w/ an Asahi last night. Next year – 50 readers!)

i’ve heard a mixtape of his (i think off the doover) and was not impressed. i guess he plays an eclectic bunch of music. he ain’t that dope a selector; and he’s not a dope mixer, either. he ain’t no jrocc or rhettmatic or king britt. truly nothing special.

i can attribute his success to: 1) he looks the part and 2) no one else knows any better.

the dude is sick and nobody’s doing what hes doing these days. talented as shit- used to drum / keys for west side connection!
Sonny just hating cause nobody’s talking bout him.

ha! i ain’t hating. i used to go see him spin at carbon years ago. he’s talented but let’s not front like he’s all that dope. westside connection had some pretty untasty beats in my opinion. i’ll list a dozen la djs that i’d personally rather see spin than dam funk. sorry, i’m not gonna buy into the hype. and if you want to test my knowledge on hip hop culture and what’s fresh, then i’ll welcome it. i’m not hating, i’m just criticizing. i don’t even spin.
