Part 2 of Stussy’s Dilla Documentary. This part focuses a lot on Dilla’s move to LA and how it changed his sound. I definitely could empathize when Houseshoes mentions that floods make you want to start over and how Detroit sucks the life out of you. Cool thing I learned was the generational connections of musicians from Detroit to LA over the decades. I’ll post Part 3 soon.
My homegirl Candace sent this over to me yesterday. I got to meet Reflex at Dance Right before and he’s a real cool dude. He basically explains his role in breaking artists at Power 106 and we see A-Trak scratch it up. Below is the soundcloud of their set. I was really happy to hear him play “I’ll Get You” (remix) by Classixx – a great song that I’ve been putting into my sets recently.
Khalid of The Smoking Section got a chance to sit down with the real Avon Barksdale who described his portrayal on The Wire. As expected, this is “his” side of the story. My LA hometown crush, Luscious Liz was asked to model for the line of NFL’s lady jerseys. She herself is an avid football and baseball fan.
