DJ Jazzy Jeff kicked off stage in Kansas City *** UPDATED ***

I haven’t seen too many blogs cover this but I recall reading Jeff’s and Skillz’s tweets on Saturday Night. The basic facts are that Jazzy Jeff was invited to perform with Z-Trip and MSTRKRFT in Kansas City for a Bacardi Live concert. Jeff left the stage 30 minutes into his set. After reading the articles about the incident, my opinion is that the Venue company (The Cordish Co.) is a conservative, slightly racist company. I believe this because as a DJ – you get some venue managers and owners who try to avoid rowdy crowds of color by restricting the music. Some blacks and latinos are ok but when they are in high numbers, managers get nervous. I think Jazzy Jeff got the brunt of this mentality from the venue managers. Z-Trip played hip-hop in his set before. But anyone who knows the styles of these two DJs knows the difference between Jazzy Jeff and Z-Trip and knows that Z-Trip is very white accessible. I also believe that there is racism in this incident because the changing of the reasons why he was asked to get off stage have been typical reasons that I have been asked by managers and often in these situations, the story changes 2 or 3 times (my friends know this from the debacle at my Rock The Bells show with Peter Rosenberg last year). So, all I ask is that you retweet or forward this post to your true hip-hop homies. Then we can all boycott, Kansas City. They don’t want you there anyways.
