Most KTL family don’t know who “Dirty Money” is. Basically, Diddy started a group with himself, Dawn from Danity Kane, and unknown chick #1. They have been my most recent guilty pleasure. Their “Love Come Down” has me doing Diddy dances in the DJ Booths on Sat Night. This song won me over w/ the Jay-Z sample and Biggie verse. Since I am not the only one digging them (What up, KHAL!), I thought I would post some of the remixes out. You’ll be surprised. Props to NR for these joints.
A dope writeup was found at the home of geniuses, Grand Good. Its an in-depth article on the history of B.I.G.’s “Biggie Smalls” moniker. I thought I knew the history but there seems to be a lot more to it. I also found it was a character in Pottier/Cosby movie sequel. Tupac fans will get a kick of the full article after the jump.
Vintage Biggie circa ‘94. The footage is great minus the annoying dude with a whistle in the background. And I would also like to give props to a VERY good site: The Meaning of Dope, where I found this video. Awesome, awesome content for true hip-hop heads. I literally spent a few hours just going through the videos on the site. Definitely going to be a must read daily.
The LA Times issued a front-page apology for slackin on their mackin when it comes to checking their info and sources. So, in the end, that Biggie and Diddy set up Pac conspiracy is still false. Watch J. Smooth’s full breakdown of the LA TImes mess up after the jump…
As most of you already know, the LA times published a report today that states Diddy and Biggie (along with some associates) knew of and took part in the shooting attack on Tupac Shakur at Quad Studios in 1994. Tupac has always claimed that Biggie knew who set him up and the East Coast/West Coast division immediately followed. Diddy has already made straightforward denials to any of the claims. Here is a round up of what’s being said:
Scouring the forums, I found this dope spot by speakonitgod. Demo tapes and early recordings galore. This man did some work, so I will let him speak on it. Read the rest, you will be thank me (and him) later…
My ever-resourceful homie Shaun McLovin, got his hands on an early copy of Jermaine Dupri’s new book Young, Rich, and Dangerous: The Making of a Music Mogul. Although, I am not much of a JD fan, he has worked with some big people. One of course was Biggie (check the Big Poppa Remix). One cool fact from the book was that JD’s mom was adamant about people NOT smoking in the house. But Biggie was the only one who forced JD’s mom to give an exception to the rule. Everyone else had to go smoke by the pool or in Bow Wow’s doghouse.
Here’s what Shaun says about the book: Although his productions skills aren’t what they used to be (did anyone check out Janet’s 20 Y.O. album), Jermaine Dupri has remained one of my favorite producers of all time. Check out his memoir “Young, Rich and Dangerous: The Making of a Music Mogul” to find out how he came up and how to stay in the game as long as he has. He also gives the inside scoop on what is was like working with everyone from TLC (yeeeahh!) to Biggie to Mariah to Janet (of course) as well as his own So So Def artists. Quick and interesting read!

After watching this video and realizing who was auditioning for the B.I.G. movie, all I can think of was Too Legit: The MC Hammer story. No dis against Romany Malco – he’s my boy from Weeds and 40-year old Virgin (No Donnie from MTB4). Watch the video and look out for the inflated dreadlocks dude claiming the others are losers. Also, the ‘Pac wannabe was worth a laugh. I think the hip-hop culture is headed to the direction of Biggie/’Pac Conventions where we all dress up. FYI – I am getting prepped for the Jon B movie. Growing out my beard as we speak. Thanks Urs for the link!
