Just wanted to give a salute out to DJ Q-Bert. 25 years in this game come this summer. He was one of the DJs that revolutionized the game but creating a more fraternal DJ culture by sharing all his techniques so that the next generations of DJs could elevate the art.

Dope, dope DJ Posse Cuts. And I love DJ Posse cuts (II). I’ll let Jayceeoh (via DJ Hedspin) tell you about the song.
“Last month I was in Vancouver and was going through some new joints and came across the Go Off track… The beat to me was asking for cuts on it… I had been kickin it with my homies Hedspin and Marvel and thought, yo we should do a quick cut track over this beat … So I chopped up the beat and sequenced it to 8-bars / hook and so forth… After we started messing with it we thought it would be dope to get a couple other people on this… So I reached out to a few people and so did my canadian comrades… Within two days I had a Dream Team of DJs on board… At that point I figured I might as well make it an even 12 DJs. Was a good number for a DJ track… Then finally on my last stop of the Canada tour I did a show with Scratch (from the Roots) in Saskatoon. I told him about the track and he was down to lay his beatbox/cuts on the intro … Icing on the cake… This track is a throwback to the good ol days when cuts were encouraged and praised. The Roster of DJs is as official as it gets… (R.I.P. Roc Raida)”

One of my fav DJs, Neil Armstrong, was followed by NeonGorilla for 24 hours to catch him while he made a stop in Toronto, CA. Some cool insight is dropped on what he loves to do as a DJ as well as his take on some Adidas kicks. Great to see any footage from this dude (II).

Hello to another weekend! If you’re in SoCal, please check out Keys N Krates in LA or SD. If you happen to be in the Bay, I would love you as my guest tonight at Paradiso (OAK) or tomorrow at Sugar (SF). Soundcloud is giving me issues with my storage limit. So, while I fix that I wanted to consolidate and repost my top 6 mixes that I’ve uploaded and you’ve played/downloaded. Thanks for all the support, thus far and a new mix will be up next week! Remember, these are for you and your peoples. Feel free to download them by clicking on the “Down” arrow in the box.
“I’m Good and Ready Mix” – one of my personal favs that I just went in one night to Sugar and decided to play quality hip-hop, regardless of what the crowd thought. The result? You tell me!
“90’s R&B mix” – This mix has been downloaded the more than any of my mixes at Soundcloud. I was surprised that KTL readers loved 90’s R&B as much as I do. I always try to sneak in a classic in every mix.
“Run This Town mix” – This mix was hated on at first but I think when people heard the transition into Slaughterhouse, they were willing to listen beyond the first song. Almost everybody liked the mix. Still haven’t convinced my brother on this one.
“Grown Folks mix” – Just a little taste on the music I grew up to and what Thursday nights in Oakland feel like. This should be listened to more often.
“Ready for the Club mix” – If you are like me, you need some theme music while you getting ready or driving to the club. This is a simple mix to achieve that goal.
“True School Mix” – An oldie but goodie. Just in case you missed it last week. The name explains it all!

A few weeks ago, an awesome event was held to honor Roc Raida. Crazy number of DJs came out to support – as you know they would bc DJs have love for each other like that. Props to GG for the footage. Just amazing and inspiring. Part 2 of the vid is after the jump. (The Rob Swift routine at the end of Part 2 is mind blowing!) Here’s the list of all the DJs cutting up “Rock The Bells”.:
DJ Craze
DJ A-Trak
DJ Scratch
Boogie Blind
DJ Cash Money
Total Eclipse
DJ Supreme
Precision
Sean C
Mista Sinista
and DJ Rob Swift
At the LA’s very own Root Down, DJ Rhettmatic does an hour set with Cypress Hill’s percussionist, Bobo for a live set of some creative music. Love seeing this hybrid of DJing and live percussion – word to Keys N Krates. Its an hour long vid w/ a special cameos by B-Real and Chino XL. Latinos stand up! Thanks to Candice for the link.

DJ Jazzy Jeff has been interviews several times over for the DJ Hero release. I’ve seen most of them but I spotted this one at Rap Radar. Looks to be the most touching. Good friends sharing a dream and then realizing, that’s what its all about, right? Stay positive and keep it moving, people.

First, thank you for all the literally hundreds of people that have downloaded my precious little mixes. I DJ for the love of it and to give you all a genuine good time listening to what I think is good music. The last few mixes have kinda been R&B/soul themed so today I wanted to take you back to my roots and essence – quality hip-hop. This mix was actually a live mix recorded from set in San Francisco last week. It was 11pm and was like “why not play some real ish for the crowd?”, instead of a typical dance/top 40 mix like others would play. People loved it and we had fun. So enjoy and feel free to pass it along. (You guys do know you can download all these mixes, right? Just click on the “Down” arrow on the right. FYI. )

Complex put out a list of the most attractive Indie Girls in honor of CMJ week. I thought what the heck, why not add it to KTL’s Alba search. Mayeb one of these girls can crossover to movies, fame, and all 23 KTL readers’ hearts. I will admit I only of like 3 people on the list, so if you anything about them, please inform me. But since the list lacked some melanin, I included Kid Sister (above) as my #11. Thanks to Jesse and Ian for the heads-up (pause).
Being a hip-hop DJ who has an open mind (most of the time) and friends who love other types of music than hip-hop, you learn to appreciate other genres. In the past few years, I have seen both my friends and fellow DJs, venture over to the dark side of Electro/Pop/House/Dance music. After DJing at Dance Right a few times, I tried to avoid but on my recent tour with Keys N Krates, Jr-Flo & Matisse gave me a new appreciation for this music. So as much as I am hater of some of the people in this video (i.e Aoki & LMFAO), I am interested to watch this documentary. Feel free to share your thoughts. Jacked from the awesome guys at Space Ballin.
