Primo just released a quick mix for all of those interested in what he’s playing right now. Some great underground and street hop for your headphones. I was happy to see Royce, Raekwon, and the Clipse in the set. Its one long mp3 but don’t complain – its still good music. Spotted at Space Ballin’. Tracklisting after the jump.

I was able to track down an April 2003 Wake Up show w/ Guru and Premier on it. I didn’t hear this live but remember a few friends years ago discussing it on the internets. This is right before The Ownerz album dropped, if I am not mistaken. They go over many a moments such as the demos and first starting to how Primo got his name. OF course, they also cut up and mix all of the Gangstarr Classics. Enjoy!
As promised but a little late, here are the rest of Gangstarr nonalbum cuts. Too many gems that just require you to download and enjoy. Tracklisting and links after the jump!
After doing some e-digging last week for some Primo beats, I found some great catalogs of Primo beats online that were non-album cuts from Gangstarr. I have most of these but wanted to share them with you! I’ll post another 2 volumes tomorrow. Pass it along.
Last night, the BET awards was on. I didn’t watch but I was anticipating the freestyle segments after everybody tweeted about them a few weeks ago. The hype around Nikki Minaj and Joe Buddens freestyle was just that – hype. After looking at all the videos, I might have to say that I think its tie between Mos and Eminem. And I am not even big fans of thiers. Dre at NR hooked up an mp3 of all the freestyles. So thank him later (c) Drake.
Although I can’t cosign on this this album cover (I only have MS Paint and could make a better cover), I will say that having Primo executive produce your album is a great look. AND then to have Bun B and Joell Ortiz get on the track is just bonus. I still bump “Shake This” so with that, I am excited to hear what Royce does on this album. I am currently looking for my Rock City CD as well. Via NR.
Two of the Best NY DJs doing it up at Red Hook, NY. (Yes, I know Primo is originally from Houston but c’mon – we all think he’s from NY!) Watching videos like this inspire me to keep perfecting my craft! Props to NR and Digiwaxx for the vid!

Found this while searching on the webs. I heard this awhile back (2002, I think) but never got the chance to download it. Basically, a random DJ (show yourself, great mixer!) put together a blend of samples that Premier used for many of Gangstarr and other collabo’s great records. So imagine what ?uestlove does in his DJ sets but focused on Primo. That’s what you can expect. Friendly find.
This song came out last Fall and then, the video last month. I am pretty late to this song but its become my new anthem in recent days. Premier did an excellent job of capturing Royce’s emotion on this track. The fact that he added the horns and let the beat build in the verse then drops it out at the chorus is genius. It has been done before, obviously, but I think it just really emphasizes the energy of the song. This song has kept me up and positive the last week.
” Being enlightened is no longer enough, you must apply
Being willing is no longer acceptable, you must do
Make it count…”
I get a late pass for this one – I was in Belize when it came out, ok! Primo is starting a new series of mixes of artists/songs that he believes should get more spins or recognition. The Ras Kass, Sauce Money, and Blahzay joints are def ones worth the download. Thanks to Free Speech, whose site reminded me to post this. Alt link and full tracklisting after the jump…
