I am back on my grind here with KTL after taking a few days off to DJ in LA. With a phenomenal week taking place with the Obama election and spirit of hope, I’m feeling good and inspired. In the mode of inspiration, I wanted to post 3 great Jay-Z related items. One is the CDQ version of Jay’s tribute song to Obama called “History”. It will be included on the Blueprint 3 (btw which will be out to 2009 says Kanye) along with “Jockin’ Jay-Z” and “Swagger Like Us (pt 1 and 2)”. Next, the video above is a BBC documentary of Jay’s early career to his performance at Glastonbury. Dope interviews but be warned - its an hour long. Lastly, the megadons at TSS posted Jay’s Library of a Legend. With our GOD MC post and that, your Jigga library should be covered.
Ok. Wrong rapper and White guy. The Mixtape by Mick Boogie & Terry Urban does have Jay-Z and Coldplay together. Viva La Hova is suppose to be a hybrid of new production using Coldplay songs and a blend tape. Haven’t listened to it just yet. And even though I think Jigga blend tapes were cool 3 albums ago, I do trust Mick Boogie… alot. I included a cool write-up from Allhiphop.com where Mick Boogie talks about the creation of this project. So, enjoy!
Over the years, Jay-Z has become my fav MC and somewhat of a person that I model some of my own behaviors from. I guess I’ve never grown out of that since middle school. So being the stan that I am, I had read what IGN said about Jay-Z’s albums. They ranked his 13 albums and got it all wrong. I’ll give them their #1 and #2 but everything else was just off. Read the article and leave a comment here on what your top 5 Hova albums are. In other Jigga news, MOTIVATION let us know that Mick Boogie is dropping a Jay-Z X Coldplay blendtape. I can cosign for Mick Boogie but maybe not another Jay-Z blend mixtape, esp with Coldplay. I’ll wait to judge though.

I held off on posting this until I had a good listening to it. I can now say.. “I am DJ Franchise and I approve of this mixtape.” Green Lantern had worked on this for months to create a positive, fluid mixtape that Obama himself and his constituents would be proud of. Great messages, impressive editing, and overall something I would let my mom listen to. I have found my morning soundtrack till Nov. 4th. After the jump tracklisting but before that Jay-Z tells you not to be fooled by the naysayers.
Jay-Z brought alot of attention to LA last night by being the first performer at the newly renovated, historic Palladium. I very much wanted to go but with a upcoming move, birthday party, baby, and new dog - the funds weren’t allowing me for a jet-set night to LA for the show. But I do thank Dan & Justin for trying. Anyways, King Toan decided to be a good friend and reminded me what I was missing by calling me from the concert. I could make out Roc Boys on the phone (i think) and decided to post the videos. More info and videos at Nah Right, Miss Info, Wale/Dan, & OGHH. The next one, I’ll go to the next one…
I held off on posting this for a few days b/c I saw that it was getting alot of love on the internets when it first dropped. But like many things on the internet, it dies after a few days (sometimes hours) of being posted somewhere. So by delaying its post here I hope to give this interview some longevity. Why would I do that? B/c in this video gives you some great insight to Jay-Z, Hip-hop’s roots, and why rap is not hip-hop. He’s got some dope kicks to grab your immediate attention. Plus in Part 2, Clark tells us about respecting your history and why you should make good decisions. Part 2 is after the jump. Much props to NHTVSN for the vids.
“Players do what they want to do, suckers do what they can.” - DJ Clark Kent
FRANCHISE EDIT: NHTVSN took down Part 2 of the interview. I heard they want to do a formal launch of it since not that many people knew Part 2 existed. I’ll post it when I get it.

Long gone are the days where the boys and I would wait at midnight at Tower Records to buy albums such as Murder was the Case and Tical. Now, I am decently surprised when I get a link to an album I want in my inbox. The test now is to be patient and anti-hedonistic enough to hold off to the release date to download an album. On 9.29.98, I had one of my biggest days in hip-hop collecting, where 5 dope albums were released. Still on a college budget, I planned for a whole month how to afford the near $100 in CDs. I was going to buy. Contra & the TSS crew were first to recognize this day (thanks for the pic) but Complex just put up a cool write-up with pics. Stop by both places and come back to leave a comment or two with us.

Rap star Jay-Z and his business partners have officially announced the sale of the 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undisclosed amount. The 24,000 square foot sports bar, which is located in The Palazzo and Casino, will no longer operate under the 40/40 brand, as the sale is for the lease and not the rights to the name.
“The sale is a great business decision, we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo ,” Jay-Z said in a statement released today (August 27).
Over the next year, Jay-Z and his business partners will open 40/40 sports bars in Chicago, Tokyo and Macau.
The Las Vegas 40/40 Club was opened in December of 2007.
