One of hip-hop’s historic recording grounds, Baseline Studios, is being closed by its owner, Just Blaze. Some of Roc-a-fellas greatest songs and albums came out of this studio. Just Blaze speaks upon his current workload and why he is shutting down Baseline. If you’re in NY, pay attention to his twitter updates, he’s been giving stuff away. I think the doors shut close at the end of the month.

Best song of 2009. Period. Possibly within all of music I heard this year. Seriously. If you don’t know, no hard feelings. This is time for you to catch up. If you do know, buy yourself an extra gift for X-mas. You deserve it. Friend and DJ, Sake1, made an edit for fellow song selectors that gives you an 8 bar intro and little faster BPM. You can download the edit, but support real hip-hop and go to Itunes and buy it! Really. I am gonna stop talking and let you experience some greatness before the end of the 2009.
Jay Electronica – Exhibit C (Sake1 DJ Edit)
At the Red Bull Big Tunes battle in Atlanta, Alchemist and Just Blaze did an impromptu “battle” over their fav self-produced beats. The footage shows that it was great exhibition of some classic songs. However, on the comments sections and Twitter, there were a surprising amount of people that caught feelings and were spreading hate and falsehoods. After the jump, Just Blaze addresses the negative buzz.

The picture above means a lot to me because both Nas and Jay in the last year have experienced some highlights and challenges in their relationships and personal lives that have mirrored my own. So, I’ve been looking out for them and their music to find comfort, empathy, and direction.
Last night, the world got their glance of “Exhibit C” from Jay Electronica. “Exhibit A” is mainstay and favorite of mine. And to hear this song, I am feeling real right about life and hip-hop right now. Let’s take on this world with courage, my friends. Sadly, I know most of you don’t have Jay’s music and my library isn’t taht deep – I’ll give you some unreleased and starter material. Props to him, him, and them for the links. Full transcript of “Exhibit C” after the jump.

Just Blaze takes a moment to talk the homies at Distortion 2 Static after his set at PST in San Francisco. By the way, Just Blaze tore it down that night. Best moment of the night, him playing Eli Porter’s Anthem – “I really mean it”. Just Blaze keepin it real in this interview is priceless. Just watch. Spotted at NR.
Jay has been working with Just Blaze recently to create some new magic for our souls. I originally thought this was called “Exhibit C” (where is Exhibit B?) but the internet homie, Frank, said its called Dear Moleskine (as in the journal). With my daughter in my arms, I feel inspired. Sidenote: Jay had his little girl about a week or so after mine. Kinda feel connected in wierd way when he tweets similar things about his girl.
The homies at Buddhapparel dropped their new line for the homies. Already picked up by major streetwear boutiques everywhere, this is a label I am in strong support of. I am especially hyped about the jackets and I got the Invaders for football on Sundays. Check out the website for the full out but got some pics after the jump. Get on it now. What up Tony!

Buddhapparel interviews Just Blaze
Exile is killing the producer game with these clips. Just Blaze or $port – where you at?! Exile first got my attention in 2007 with his album with Blu – Below the Heavens. I didn’t know if he was slept on by the masses and I found a diamond in the rough (pause) or I was the last to know about him. In any sense, I think what Qbert did for Scratching, Exile could do for beatmaking. His chop up of “Q-Tip’s Let’s ride” and “A Millie” after the jump. Thanks to Eskay.
I don’t frequent TMTD as much as I should and I know definitely not as much $port does, but now I kinda wish I did.
The video is a personalized, educated, and unique response to a constant reader/commenter on Just Blaze’s blog who caught the attention of one of hip-hop’s best producers and best journalists. See the comments section here to see what garnered the Just/Jay response. Based on their response, I figured now I need to do a few things to get some attention from my fav bloggers: 1) Have talent 2) Continue to comment everyday on my fav blogs 3) Say something passionately dumb to get people to question my talent, maturity and perspective 4) Be young.
Two wrap-up points to this post, I think today’s hip-hop heads are in a very privileged position where we have instant and available access to our hip-hop icons/legends/artists. Be grateful for that! Lastly, I need to get more educated on this Israeli/Gaza situation. Much like the Economy crisis, I need to understand things that don’t seem to directly impact me. Your help is appreciated.
