The Game & Travis Barker - Dope Boys (Live)

This is a catchy song and all, but I AM not feeling the Game too much these days. I only posted this because I love what Travis Barker is doing these days. Last night, I saw the Travis Barker and DJ AM show at the Roxy in Los Angeles. It was quite a good show, it was the second time i have seen them perform. DJ AM is still the same, pretty lame, but Travis is off the hook with his drumming. I don’t like it too much when they play the Beastie Boys sh!t, but I understand that the crowd is all from the OC. My fiance and I played a game of, what will there be more of, Ed Hardy/Afflication T-Shirts, or Famous Stars and Straps T-Shirts. She didn’t know that the Famous comes out in full force to promote there “boy” (Travis Barker). But anyways it was a good show, we stayed in the far back just by the door and had our ear plugs in.

Jay Electronica - Performance @ Mezzanine (SF)

So… for the now 10 people that read our site, you know that I was playing host to Rosenberg this weekend. A gentleman and great DJ - that Rosenberg is. Alot of our talks were about either girls, hip-hop, food, and/or hoe-ass marks. One of the hip-hop discussions that we talked about while driving through the Bay was Jay Electronica. I let Peter know that I’ve been on the fence about him. I was put-off by the video of his first live performance but his production on “Queens Get The Money” changed my world. So although I couldn’t accept Peter’s invitation to go to Rock The Bells b/c of a wedding, I did meet up with him at the Afterparty. It was there that Jay put on a small set and I must say, like Rosenberg, I can co-sign for the dude. He’s the truth. Little rough around the edges but I can see him being great very soon. No septor on him though, that was disappointing. More videos of his performance and special bday shout-out after the Jump. Read the rest of this entry »

A Tribe Called Quest - Live (1999)

With the hype building up for Tribe’s reunion at this year’s Rock The Bells, i felt it was only appropriate that I post a live show from Tribe. Supposedly, this is a recording of the last show they did together before they broke up in 1999. Good quality. Tracklisting after the jump…

5 Days of The Roots… Day 5

On this last day of “5 Days of the Roots”, we bring you a special treat. This is a public radio recording of Chuck D and Cornell West interviewing and following The Roots on tour earlier on their career. Despite the critics of those that say Hip-Hop is all about cars, drugs, and money - this is an audio argument to defend your stance on what hip-hop is really about. Its a long listen, so clear some time and hard drive space. As a bonus, here’s a recording of their MTV $2 Bill concert in 2002 and some interviews after the jump…

5 Days of The Roots… Day 4

Anyone who knows anything about the Roots knows that they are performers first and foremost. I recall seeing them for the first time in Detroit with Goodie Mob and a very young Fugees. They had only really released 2 albums at the time (one no one heard of) but they just ripped it. Hip-Hop 101 was def the move that got my stamp of approval and fan adoration. My brothers have tried to make it their annual LA Halloween gig for the last couple of years. I recall one year they dressed up as NWA and tore the sh!t down! So enjoy these live show treats. (via RL) The Lund Show has an awesome set of Hip-Hop 101 for all of y’all. And the Hot97 show is filled with guests. Spoilers after the jump.

Loved by coffee chicks and white dudes, The Roots bring not only history of our culture to the masses but a bravery to expand its boundaries. So… for Day 1, I give you the links that we posted on KTL before with a little treat.

The Roots: Live

A live set from the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2001. I am well aware that there is an official Roots live album but I am fan of the bootleg shows as well. Today is your lucky day b/c I wanted to make sure you got their Legendary EP. I;ve talked to a few friends and it was surprising they didn’t have it. BTW, if you don’t have the Roots rarities and remixes, go here.
