One of my favorite producers, Salamm Remi, talks about an unreleased remix for Lover’s Rock by Sade in 2001. This is a gem of knowledge that will go down in hip-hop trivia books for the ages. RapRadar has an excellent song reference that is worth checking out after watching the video.

Ivan Rott from HHIR has a guest blogging spot at one of my favorite sites, Daily Mathematics. Ivan has a cohesive and enticing write-up on the book, Born To Use Mics: Reading Nas’s Illmatic. (By The way, shouldn’t be just an apostrophe? Grammar nerd, please comment.) I am going to give you the link here and encourage you to visit the site. If I can muster up the funds, I am gonna buy 2 copies – 1 for me and 1 for JGILLA. Enjoy!

Ugghnicewatch posted a collection of one music’s (not just hip-hop’s) most acclaimed but lesser-known producers. Those of us that are fan’s of Nas, Amy Winehouse, and random remixes know he is. This collection is just a snippet of his songs that he produced but you will definitely get to know the man and his sound after listening to this. Tracklisting after the jump. Just more good music for your weekend!
Stretch Armstrong reminisces in this interview about the creation of the “Stretch and Bobbito Show” that was a platform and pivotal breaking point for many up and coming MCs. Its crazy to hear him talk about how many unsigned people came to his show just to be “put on”. Enjoy. Spotted at NR.

Rakim speaks about Nas’ “Unauthorized Biograph of Rakim” track off of Street Disciple. Although, as fans, we thought it was cool to see one dope MC biggup another… Ra saw it a little differently. As I learned recently with a DJ who I look up to in the Bay, “There are rules to this sh!t” (c) B.I.G. I tell Nas – take the hit, humble yourself and learn. Spotted at Miss Info.

The picture above means a lot to me because both Nas and Jay in the last year have experienced some highlights and challenges in their relationships and personal lives that have mirrored my own. So, I’ve been looking out for them and their music to find comfort, empathy, and direction.
Last night, the world got their glance of “Exhibit C” from Jay Electronica. “Exhibit A” is mainstay and favorite of mine. And to hear this song, I am feeling real right about life and hip-hop right now. Let’s take on this world with courage, my friends. Sadly, I know most of you don’t have Jay’s music and my library isn’t taht deep – I’ll give you some unreleased and starter material. Props to him, him, and them for the links. Full transcript of “Exhibit C” after the jump.
KTL family member, JGILLA, let me know that the New Yorker posted an article of hip-hop’s jumping the shark and passing away as a genre. I am going to let you read the article and left my editorial for this article in the comments section. Please read and share your thoughts.
Before DFLO and other KTL readers start throwing rocks at me, I say listen to the track and then commence the tossing (pause). Joss has a unique way in controlling this song and Nas drops one of his bet cameo verses in awhile. Props to TSS for reminding me to post this song to all 23 of you!
Great footage of Q-Tip talking about his production of beats for Jay-Z and Biggie. Although we’ve never heard an Ummah beat for these NY MCs, I can imagine something classic. On a separate note, think Tip loves to do impressions of his friends. Anyone remember his impressions of Busta at the Noisemakers interviews? Thanks to NR for the vid.

Vancouver’s Nardwuar got the spot on Nas for a cool interview that basically plays out to be “.Nas, This Is Your Life”. JGILLA, this is for you! Blind I got the cook up!
