Jay Electronica – Peter Rosenberg Interview

Peter Rosenberg got the chance to sit down to talk to Jay Electronica a couple of weeks ago.  They hit up topics like Jews, wacking, and why Exhibit C has gotten so much attention.  Its a really good listen.  Peter, we still love you! Let’s get back to the roots with some Juan Epstein classics!

Talib Kweli – Interview with Peter Rosenberg

I was just sharing with the homies JGILLA & KHAL, that i’ve lost my fandom for Rosenberg and Juan Epstein. It might have jumped the shark for several reasons but in the end, I am not looking out like I used to. Maybe its time for a new hip-hop nerd podcast. But what Rosenberg does have going for him are these Noisemakers interviews which seem to be really insightful and entertaining. Check the other 2 vids after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Jay-Z Interviews

With the BP3 really making its presence all over the hip-hop blogosphere, I think its only right that I give you the best videos and iinterviews I could find out there that go beyond the redundant, “this is my best album”, “I want to push music’s boundaries”, etc. After the jump are: Jay’s Interview with Bill Maher (video), The Magna Carter (UK Guardian Interview), His sitdown with Peter Rosenberg & Cipha Sounds (Audio), and Part 2 of his BET interview. Above is Part 1. If anything, watch the BET special so that you see Harry Allen’s (you should know who he is) questions make Stephen A. Smith look like Chris Farley in the SNL skit w/ Paul McCartney.  Sources: NR and Blind I

Rosenberg interviews Drake

If you were reading twitter updates last night, you knew 3 things: 1) Everyone was celebrating then hating Diddy for getting a 1,000,000 followers 2) No one showed up to a great Jam Session with the Roots 3) because all the hip-hop nerds were at Drake’s S.O.B. show. Dudes were particularly surprised that some many girls were there – I guess, they only know the hype and haven’t heard the actual mixtapes. Anyways, I heard the performance was good but not great. But Rosenberg was able to steal a few minutes to interview the man of the hour. Then his hip-hop revenge came out when he spotted Kanye and Part 2 of the Sonning of Peter began. On a sidenote, I think $port said it best that Drake is Hip-Hop’s Obama right now. Everyone loves him, if you don’t – you’re a hater. He symbolizes a likable good attitude but still has a lot to prove. We’ll see.

Budden VS. Meth and… The Roots?

The above performance has been a topic of chatter amongst hip-hop nerds, especially those of us on Twitter. Basically, last week, Meth and Budden got into some name-calling WWF drama because overconfident Budden spoke from his heart and Meth felt that he was disrespected. Neither have spit bars to see who’s the better rapper. So who gets the shaft? The Roots. Because Budden mentioned Black Thought’s name in the conversation, Def Jam (aka Meth) told Fallon and Questlove that they did not want the Roots backing them when the performed “A-Yo”. Their PC/”official” reason for the last minute change was lame. In reality, Meth and Red were actually the ones that were hurt from this because now they missed the opportunity to make it a memorable performance for themselves and hip-hop. Peep the videos for the backstory, props to Peter.

Noisemakers w/ Peter Rosenberg & Q-Tip

The homie Peter Rosenberg has been hitting homeruns with his new Noisemakers series in NY. Playing off his successful interview style from Juan Epstein, he’s gotten DJ Premier, Questlove, and now Q-Tip to share some great stories about thier personal history and inside scoop on classic hip-hop moments. I wasn’t there but from the twitterverse has disclosed, he talks about:  how Busta almost became a part of Tribe, meeting Phife, battling Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and working with the Native Tongues. The video above is a classic clip of Q-Tip’s impression of D’angelo, an outburst from Questlove, and his first encounters with Dilla. Thanks, FWMJ.

Rosenberg interviews Jemaine

Who knew Peter was a Flight of the Conchords fan? Watch for the Rosenberg “ouch” towards the end – almost as bad as the Kanye interview “ouch” HBO for the win again. Just rewatched season 1 on DVD for the second time. Season 2 better be good and not flop like Heroes.

Murray: He may be dead.
Dave: He maybe did what?
Murray: No, he may be dead.
Dave: What didn’t he maybe do?
Murray: He maybe *dead*.
Bret: Dead.
Dave: Are you guys fucking with me?
Murray: He maybe dead, not alive.
Dave: Ohh…

Tracy Morgan in the NY Times

This past weekend I had Tracy Morgan’s comedy CD on blast during my trip to Ann Arbor (which btw was great fun with the homies (II) but the loss was depressing). Too many classic lines from that comedy album:

“…his jaw like a cash register”

“…his leg was BLOW’DOFF!”

“…don’t c*m in my mouth, Tracy!”

“I no come back!”

JGilla was nice enough to send over an article where they spent a meal/evening with the NY times for an interview. Classic material (C) LONS. Also, coincidentally, Tracy was on Cipha & Rosenberg this morning with Darryl from the office. Hilarious show. Enjoy!

A Rosenberg Oddisee EP

Rosenberg dropped the EP that we’ve been gassin’ the last few months.  I think its a great compilation and what’s more impressive is that it was done with no shootings, baby mama drama, or chains getting stolen.  I’m big fan of the Nikki Jean and Daytona joints.  Full tracklisting after the jump.  Congrats, Peter!
