After doing some e-digging last week for some Primo beats, I found some great catalogs of Primo beats online that were non-album cuts from Gangstarr. I have most of these but wanted to share them with you! I’ll post another 2 volumes tomorrow. Pass it along.
Cold Rock Da Spot posted earlier this year but unfortunately I missed it. My fail. But I finally got it and wanted to share it with you. The updated the zip file they made has a live version of “potholes” and “Stakes Is High” w/ a unreleased promo remix. As an avid De La fan, I thought I should share this find. By the way, I know you may think I’m crazy but I think Grind Date was their best album. Yeah, I said it. Tracklisting after the jump.
Major, Major props to Ivan & Co. at HHIR. They just posted 3 volumes of Wu-Tang Freestyles. Some I had, others are rare gems. You’ve got Meth, Ghost, Rae, RZA, GZA, ODB but some Gravediggaz and Wu affiliates as well. This may take up my whole weekend to listen to it all. Agan, take a moment to visit HHIR and then download to your HD explodes (IT pause). Tracklistings after the jump!
Ice Cube. Say what you want about him and his now “softer” image but this man made some truly historical and socially conscious music in his prime years. I am posting up some of the original albums and remixes from those albums to get you back into state of mind of reflection, anger, and action. Track listing and links after the jump. I am interested in hearing our KTL readers thoughts on Cube’s music, image, and impact in the comments section. Shout out to Pup on this one!
Mister Cee made this mix yeeeeaaaars ago but it still bangs. Mister Cee is not the best mixer but has some of the best song selections and exclusives. Something to bump to keep you focused on dope lyrics and great beat selection. Smarten up, Nas. Props to DU for the links and image. Track listing after the jump.
I know I took a few days off – been DJing alot and I do have a full-time as well. However, I think redeemed myself with these two finds. 90s freestyles from Jay and BIG. Jay is spitting over some classic Marley Marl beats. Then, we have Biggie and Craig Mack over Redman’s “Rocafella” instrumental. Educate yourself this weekend! Major props to DJ Stepone who a plethora (not to be confused with the word “urethra”) of great interviews, mixtapes, and freestyles from the 90s.
Flying under the radar due to the hype of the NBA playoffs, Cassie vs. Rhianna, “Motherlover”, and the Relaspe leak; De La Soul has been making moves and noise with the signature quality music. They just got back from Australia where my favorite mixtape DJ, J. Period, was opening for them. Then they released last week the stellar mix for Nike, which the homie, Dukes, took the time to chop up the mp3 for 2 new songs.
After the jump are some vlogs of J. Period’s trip to Australia and De La discussing the Best of Q-Tip mixtape.
*** UPDATE: I haven’t visited Cold Rock Da Spot in awhile but I am glad I did today because they dropped a great post on De La’s rare songs and remixes then proceeded to give them to you, the hip-hop loving public. Now stop reading and go check it out!
Another hip-hop confession for all 12 KTL readers, I’m bored with Mos Def. He has just gotten lazy and effortless with his work. If you have been to his shows recently, you know what I mean. 30 min of Jazz scats doesn’t make you deep. Anyways, the video above he loses his sanity for a moment to think he battle Jay-Z. I agree he can whip Lil’ Wayne but so can a pug that’s has digestive problems. But to not hurt those readers that believe Mos Def is authentic (”he’s from Brooklyn!”), funny (”he was on Chapelle show!”), artistic (have you heard “Black on Both Sides?”), an actor (”he’s in the new Gondry film!”) and true hip-hop, I give you a dope collection of rares and remixes. Its a box set that came out in 2006 that is very hard to find in origianl packaging but here for your digital pleasure. Go change your diaper. Tracklisting after the jump.
I know, a day late but its worth the post just on the remembrance factor alone. My fav mixtape DJ, J. Period, (which btw I’m still rocking that best of Q-Tip mixtape) put a special link to commemorate the 12th year of Biggie’s passing. There are three downloads available. Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 were released previously but are must have’s if you don’t already. This year he dropped a collection of remixes, rares, and singles for the hardcore fans. I’ll give you part 3 here but you gotta go to J.period.com for the rest.
Every true hip-hop heads favorite backpack group was the Boot Camp Click. They have numerous classics under their belt as a collective. I remembered that I looked up as many Barry White songs as I could after hearing the “I Gotcha Opin” remix. Like the Wu, every fan has a diff MC from the BCC that they like for their specific reasons but there is enough to go around for everybody (No Kanye Haircut). After the jump or some remixes, rares, and singles that you might like. BTW, doesn’t Nervous Records have one of the most recognizable and classic logos of all times? (Source: HHAISB)
