J.Period & “Uncle” Ralph McDaniels (Video Music Box, The Bridge) bring Biggie back to life with the “March 9: Video Remix Collection”—a collection of exclusive B.I.G. remixes set to classic videos, in honor of the 13th Anniversary of B.I.G.’s untimely passing. “Flava in Ya Ear (March 9 Video Remix)” marks the first release, a club-shattering blend of old and new that begs the question: where would hip hop be if B.I.G. were still alive!? Tune into jperiod.com/march9 to view more “March 9: Video Remixes”

The homies from Toronto have made it to Hip-Hop Official. A really good interview from these guys. I’m proud of them! Tune looks sober, Matisse, looks happy, and Flo looks like he shaped up the beard for the interview. They are currently working with a few dope MCs and new remixes that will hopefully come out later this year. In the meantime, get to Canada and watch them wreck shop!

Best song of 2009. Period. Possibly within all of music I heard this year. Seriously. If you don’t know, no hard feelings. This is time for you to catch up. If you do know, buy yourself an extra gift for X-mas. You deserve it. Friend and DJ, Sake1, made an edit for fellow song selectors that gives you an 8 bar intro and little faster BPM. You can download the edit, but support real hip-hop and go to Itunes and buy it! Really. I am gonna stop talking and let you experience some greatness before the end of the 2009.
Ugghnicewatch posted a collection of one music’s (not just hip-hop’s) most acclaimed but lesser-known producers. Those of us that are fan’s of Nas, Amy Winehouse, and random remixes know he is. This collection is just a snippet of his songs that he produced but you will definitely get to know the man and his sound after listening to this. Tracklisting after the jump. Just more good music for your weekend!
Cold Rock Da Spot posted earlier this year but unfortunately I missed it. My fail. But I finally got it and wanted to share it with you. The updated the zip file they made has a live version of “potholes” and “Stakes Is High” w/ a unreleased promo remix. As an avid De La fan, I thought I should share this find. By the way, I know you may think I’m crazy but I think Grind Date was their best album. Yeah, I said it. Tracklisting after the jump.
Ice Cube. Say what you want about him and his now “softer” image but this man made some truly historical and socially conscious music in his prime years. I am posting up some of the original albums and remixes from those albums to get you back into state of mind of reflection, anger, and action. Track listing and links after the jump. I am interested in hearing our KTL readers thoughts on Cube’s music, image, and impact in the comments section. Shout out to Pup on this one!
Props to the homies at Blind I for this little gem! (Speaking of gems, when we gonna see the Keys N Krates interview footage?) A simple question was asked – “What if Dilla produced the Blueprint?” Well, DJ Jimmy Green took the time to answer the question and although it isn’t a masterpiece, it is an album filled with soul, sample recognitions, and revived inspiration. Definitely take a listen and stop talking about Kanye & Lil Mama for a moment.
The Re-inventors of the remix, Keys N Krates, perform their rendition of Mos Def’s Ms. Fat Booty for a live crowd in the Bay. This is just a taste of what you’ll see at the Apollo Kids Launch Party tomorrow at Little Temple in LA! Then, our West Coast tour starts with San Diego and San Francisco coming up right after! To rsvp to the show tomorrow, email here: rsvp@apollokidsonline.com. We start at 9pm!

Keys N Krates released some rehearsal footage of their remixing of Paul Johnson’s Get Down. (DFLO – I know this is not your cup of tea but stay open minded. Remember they did the Award Tour set I posted last year?) I remember hearing this in their set at PST a few weeks ago but didn’t recognize it till a minute in. These guys, in my humble opinion, are going to give The Roots a run for their money in being the premiere hip-hop ensemble. West Coast and all 20 of our readers – don’t say you haven’t been warned!

The production duo, Cookin’ Soul, have partnered with Nah Right to come up with a compilation album entitled 1:00am and Rising. Eskay has alot to say about it at NR. But, if you want to get straight to the nitty gritty, just download the song below. If the mixtape is anything like the song below, this is going to be a slept-on banger (no date-rape). Let’s keep promoting good music, KTL readers. All 18 of us can change the world!
