Along with Keys N Krates, the Bobo meets Rhettmatic show is one that pioneers live instrumentation and hip-hip to places where audiences have not imagined. With veteran percussionist from Cypress Hill and legendary DJ from the Beat Junkies, Bobo and Rhett take soul, house, hip-hop to some great levels of imagination. If you’ve been lucky enough to see them live, you know what I am talking about. They’ve now put together an album for your enjoyment. Go to their website, www.bobomeetsrhettmatic.com, to get it. Def worth it, if just for the intro. Trackilisting after the jump.
Part 2 of Stussy’s Dilla Documentary. This part focuses a lot on Dilla’s move to LA and how it changed his sound. I definitely could empathize when Houseshoes mentions that floods make you want to start over and how Detroit sucks the life out of you. Cool thing I learned was the generational connections of musicians from Detroit to LA over the decades. I’ll post Part 3 soon.

“Stussy produced a three part documentary series about J Dilla’s life in Los Angeles that they’ll be releasing every week. They just threw up part 1 of the documentary on their site, along with the accompanying pictures to go along with it.
They’re releasing part 2 (”Detroit to Los Angeles”) on next Wednesday and then part 3 (”Donuts”) on the Wednesday after that.”
Has HouseShouse, PBWolf, Rhettmatic, J. Rocc and many other people you should respect.

So I heard that Talib and Rhettmatic surprised the LA crowd at Boombox a few Saturdays ago by bringing out these heavyweights (minus J. Cole) on stage to perform some new Reflection Eternal. This is monstrous. 2010 is gonna a great year for music. Feeling re-inspired. Thanks Dukes for the heads up! And if you don’t know Dukes, he not only represents BK but dated Natalie Portman.

At the LA’s very own Root Down, DJ Rhettmatic does an hour set with Cypress Hill’s percussionist, Bobo for a live set of some creative music. Love seeing this hybrid of DJing and live percussion – word to Keys N Krates. Its an hour long vid w/ a special cameos by B-Real and Chino XL. Latinos stand up! Thanks to Candice for the link.

So last year, we posted about the Ghostface Doll coming out for Xmas. I didn’t get one but I just thought it was too hard for my family to find. The real reason was that it never came out. From what I’ve heard, there were complications with the distribution and production of the doll. Supposedly, the gold chain on the doll is real and I can see why it costs $300 now. There are few out there though.
Well, this mix was made a year ago and was the official mixtape to go with the release of the doll, Mixed by DJ Malachi’s twin, the Beat Junkies’ own Rhettmatic. So with no doll, Rhett and Ghost thought the mix was worth putting out there. Download the whole mix and have fun. (Be warned – its one long mp3). Tracklisting after the jump. Thanks to JTS for the info.
